Shh, Don't Tell My Mother

If my mother, who came to the US on a boat from Italy, gets wind of this post, I will deny that I wrote it. She would flip out at the thought of me suggesting you buy a pre-jarred tomato sauce.  She has a point; it is quite simple to make, but I believe that I win the argument that you can’t get much simpler than walking into a grocery store, reading the label, and walking to the cash register to pay for the jar.
Please be clear that I am only suggesting this as a time saver and not in replacement of your long cherished family recipe.  This jar was yummy. I bought it because as I read the ingredients, they were clearly exactly what I would use if I were starting my own sauce:

A very basic jar of tomato sauce would include: plum tomatoes, basil, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper and this one has exactly that and nothing more. That’s a good thing. Simplicity is best when it comes to sauce.

Turkey meat balls

  • 1 lb lean turkey breast
  • 2 egg whites
  • parley, oregano, salt, pepper, garlic
  • 1/2 cup oats

Mix together and form in to little balls. Bake in oven at 350 for 20 minutes. Turn them at least once. They can be a bit dry as turkey meat is dry however the sauce will save the day or at least the dinner. (Love you mom)

Do you make your own sauce? or do you buy it already prepared for you?
