How Showing Up Like a Schlep Can Affect Your Workout.

If you are showing up looking like a “schlep”, you’re most likely acting like one and how then can you have a rockin’ experience at the gym? 

How you show up and what you wear affects your attitude and the pleasure you experience. 

Studies have been done on how clothes can invade the body and the brain, putting the wearer in a different psychological state.

The idea that when we put on certain clothes, we might more readily take on a role and how that might affect our basic abilities,” is one of the findings on the website of The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. Because we think not just with our brains but with our bodies, our thought processes are based on physical experiences that set off associated abstract concepts. Now it appears that those experiences include the clothes we wear.

So dress the part. Even if you don’t feel like a healthy, sexy partipant, fake it, until you do.

That loose baggie tee shirt that you wear to cover it all up may better serve as a dust cloth. What about those stretched out old sweatpants that serve as a nice hiding place for your bod? Let’s face it, it’s time to face it. By covering yourself with these clothes, you don’t have to look closely at your body in the mirror leaving you stuck and unmotivated to see or make changes.

You’ll want to bring a good attitude with you in order to experience the pleasure that can come from a “workout experience” that you fully participate in.

Remember that you don’t have to be perfect to be sport your “hotness”. You just need to sport perfect attitude that supports and embraces wherever you are in your journey. I love wearing tight fitting pretty clothing to the gym so that I can see my body move and change.

Henry David Thorough said this, “I am in awe of my body”.   Of course he was, and you should be too. It’s an amazingly wonderful machine and we need to value, appreciate and care for it by adorning it with love and beautiful things.

It’s time for some new fab sneakers and a pair of “hot” pants so you can strut your stuff and walk into that gym like you own it. Embrace your beautiful bod as a work in progress.  Repeat this mantra daily, “Every day, in every way, I am moving closer to to my goals” and show up looking that way.
